Don Alan's Comedy Egg On Head Trick

As used on Don Alan's "Magic Ranch" television show in the 1960s comes this classic children's routine.

An egg is broken into a canister and a card clamped over the top of the can. The can is then inverted and put on top of a boy or girl's head. The performer pretends to forget what comes next and recalls that the instructions for the trick are printed on the card under the can! So...he pulls the card out and reads it aloud: "DO NOT REMOVE"! He then gives the child an egg beater to beat the egg as it falls down because he plans to take the can off of their head. When the can is removed, the egg has vanished, much to the child's relief. The can is then placed on the performer's hand, lifted off, and standing on his hand is now a tall glass full of candy which may be passed out or given to the spectators in the audience or given to the child who has been helping.

Professional Tip:

When Eddy Wade was performing lots of birthday party shows and other performances for children, he found a much preferable way of performing the trick. After breaking the egg, instead of putting the can on the assisting child’s head, kneel down on one knee and put it on your own head! The kids think it’s hilarious that the adult is put in the embarrassing situation, and they really react to the idea that, once the instruction card is removed, the gooey egg is going to be oozing down the top of the “big person’s” head! This is an ideal trick for the “kid show” performer. Easy to carry, and since it does not actually use a real egg, there is no chance of messy accidents.
