TWIST 2000

By Jerry Mentzer

Basic Effect: The four aces turn face-down one at a time, then unexpectedly change to the Ace, Two, Three, and Four of Spades!

Twisting effects have been around for something like 40 years with Dai Vernon’s “Twisting the Aces” being one of the earliest. There have been many variations. This version developed by Jerry Mentzer is very strong and perhaps the strongest version that can be done with a regular pack of cards with no gimmicked cards involved. You begin by showing four aces. Then each time the Aces are “twisted” one of them turns face down; first one face down card, then, after a second twist, two face-down cards, then three, and finally all four cards are face down! Then, the surprise of surprises! The performer drops the cards one-at-a-time, face-up on top of the tabled pack and they are the Ace, Two, Three, and Four of Spades!!! The strength of this routine is that every time the cards are counted from hand to hand, the counting appears the same, therefore the handling looks very fair to your spectators. No confusion due to counts that look suspiciously different. The effect utilizes relatively easy card skills which should be familiar to experienced cardicians. And if you haven’t already mastered the skills needed, the instructions teach all you need to know!

This is an improved handling of  the predecessor effect, Maxi-Twist 2 by Roger Smith that dates back to the 1970s. In this improved handling, all "counts" used are Easy to do and Look-Alike for a much stronger magical effect.

This is only the printed manuscript, use your own cards.
